Mermaid Dress
I was at a shopping center which looked like homes, was walking around doing some shopping. There was an old friend of mine from waking life who I noticed was there but I was trying to stay away from. This person kept following me around and staring at me everywhere I went. I then ended up heading home, it was late night. He begins walking up to me saying I shouldn't head home that late and that I should go with him.I don't know why but I ended up going with him, he took me to a place I never been before which he claims to be family's house and tells me to talk to his cousin, who I never met. His cousin was very nice, he knew nothing about me, was to himself and talked about a lot of things he likes and asked me what I liked. Then we left and as I was walking ahead of my friend he taps me to turn around and says he wanted to tell me something. He then says the house is mine, the family which lives there is family he hasn't seen in a long time, the dad is really sick so they're selling the house and that he said that he could use it so they gave it to my friend and my friend put it in my name. I couldn't believe what he had done and I had said"are you serious?" He said, "Yeah, so you can come here whenever you want." Weeks go by and there was one night I didn't want to go home. I was in the area and lived far from wherever I was so I decided to go to the house which he said was mine. I got there and it was really dark, looked abandoned. I opened the door and it wasn't locked, when I stepped in I closed the door, moments later I began hearing shuffling inside like someone was in there. I ran outside and to the fence and stared at the road contemplating if I should walk but it was dark so I turned around and layed on the grass and thought if something doesn't come out while I lay here then I'll go back in. I walk back in, closed the door behind me and see a man whos fairly tall. He looks at me and says "oh hi" I say "sorry, um, my friend said that I could stay here if I ever need." He said, "oh, ok. Yeah you can, I think I know what friend that is" I said, "yeah" He says, "Yea, no problem, and then he looked down" In that moment I had visions of the man and my friend having a connection, my friend was leaving him and going with his dad and the man being sad about it or having emotions towards the situation. I looked at the man and was going to ask him a question about what I was feeling or about how they were connected in terms of family, him and my friend but before I could say anything, the man looks over and says, "You know your friend, he's uh.. he's a good kid." I said, "oh yeah" He says,"I have a story about him and his life." I said, "really?" he says,"yeah, he uh, you know his dad." I said "yea" he said,"his dad used to uh, bully me in school and uh, I didn't know why, I had no idea why and when I had my son, he came up to me and told me that I shouldn't have had a child and then he proceeded to tell me that I should give him my child because if I were to raise him, he wouldn't come out the way that he should, so I did.. and it turns out, he was right. I realized all these years, after the fact, why he was always picking on me in school. I was upset about it before... I'm glad that he did and uh, I'm glad that he was able to provide something more for my son, well his son now, and uh.. that's your friend." I said"ok. I thought so cause I had a feeling and you look like him too." he says,"oh, I look like, your friend?" I said, "Yea, I was going to ask if you were his dad but then again I knew he had a dad so I thought that wouldn't make sense but now that you mention what you just did it makes more sense to me now." He said,"Yeah well, that's the story. And yeah, your welcome here. Um, his cousins in the other room if you wanna go talk." I go to the other room and his cousin invites me to stay on the bed with him so I do. We start talking about things,..life and interests again. Then I wake up and it's morning and I'm in the same house laying next to my friends cousin. I get up and feel like there's somebody standing there watching me. I look over and it's my friend. He asks me how my sleep was with his cousin. I tell him it was nice, he's really nice. We talked all night and all day and he tells me, "I'm glad you had a nice night. You know your always welcome to stay here and like I said, it is your house. I said, "ok, yeah I just decided to come because I didn't want to go all the way home." He said, "You could come for whatever reason it doesn't matter." Then a girl comes up to us, she was staring down at his cousin and I on the bed, looks at my friends cousin and says,"Oh so you have a girl over now and your not going to tell me?" He laughs and says"oh, she's just a friend and oh we talked all night about a lot of things, and I gotta show you something." I realize this girl is his cousins sister. He comes back with something in his hand, it's a magazine, hands it over and says, "check this out" it's a wedding magazine. He looks at me and says,"Your going to get married." I say, me no, I'm not going to get married." He says, "Yes you are" I say, "well I'm the master of my own decisions but however to just play around with your idea, I'm going to do something with the book." So I look over at his sister who's standing in front of us and say, "I'm going to flip to one of these pages and going to stick my finger and whatever I land on is going to be my dress." She says, "ok, go for it." So I do and I end up opening it, it turns out it landed on a wedding dress which is teal and the jewelry is aquamarine, it has a mermaid style look to it. I say, "look, I got a mermaid one" She says,"oh it looks like you are going to get married." I say "why is that?" She says "oh because the theme of the bathroom here in this house is a mermaid theme, it's the exact color pattern as that." I turn to my friend and say oh wow, did you hear that?" He said, "Yeah,... mermaid theme? I don't think that's a good one for you but it's interesting how those two connected." I said, "Yea, I don't want to get married though, so I don't know."

This dream circles around belonging, boundaries, and an uneasy inheritance — both literal and emotional. The shopping-center-that-looks-like-homes and the late-night walk home set a scene of movement between public life and private life; you’re out in a place that resembles domestic comfort but it’s still a marketplace, a place for choosing and being seen. Your friend who follows you and pressures you to go with him seems to embody an insistence from the past: something familiar that won’t let you simply pass by. Going with him against your initial resistance suggests a surrender — not necessarily malicious, but perhaps born of politeness, obligation, or curiosity — that then deposits you into a house that is offered to you as if it were yours. That gesture feels like both gift and responsibility: welcome, and yet it places you inside a story someone else has already been living. The house itself does a lot of symbolic work. Houses often stand for the self, and entering an abandoned, dark house you’ve been told is yours points to exploring neglected or unfamiliar parts of yourself. Your hesitation outside — the test of lying on the grass to see if anything comes out — reads like a boundary check: you are cautious about stepping into something that might be unsafe or emotionally loaded. Inside, the tall man who greets you and recounts the story about your friend’s father introduces family legacy and hidden exchanges: adoption, bullying, and a transfer of roles. That anecdote reframes your friend as someone shaped by sacrifice and complicated loyalties, which may explain why he follows or hovers in your waking life. The man’s acceptance of the situation and his gentle approval of your presence suggest an invitation to understand those deeper roots rather than remain only aware of surface behaviors. Interpersonally the dream stages a triangle: you, the friend, and the cousin in the bedroom. Sharing prolonged conversation and sleeping beside the cousin evokes intimacy, exploration, and perhaps a willingness to inhabit alternative emotional modes — softer, curious, companionable — that you might be craving. Waking to find the friend watching you speaks to feeling observed or judged by the part of your life that follows you; he’s both gatekeeper and benefactor. The wedding magazine and the teal mermaid dress introduce archetypal images of union and metamorphosis. Weddings in dreams often symbolize integration — a coming-together of inner parts — rather than literal marriage. You resist the literal idea of marriage in the dream, asserting autonomy, which likely mirrors waking concerns about commitment, being labeled, or taking on roles because others expect it of you. The mermaid imagery is especially resonant. Mermaids are liminal figures, half-land half-sea, linked to allure, mystery, emotional depth, and feminine creativity. The fact that the house’s bathroom already had a mermaid theme creates a small synchronous pattern in the dream: the private, cleansing space (bathroom) shares its palette with the bridal image, suggesting that any imagined union or commitment will be intimately tied to emotional, interior life rather than public ceremony. Teal and aquamarine point to healing, communication, and watery feeling. Put together, the dream might be inviting you to recognize an inner transformation — an acceptance of parts of yourself that are pulled between independence and belonging — while also asking you to notice whether a “gift” from someone else is truly your own or an inheritance of someone else’s story. If you want to reflect on this further, consider where in waking life you feel pursued or obliged, and where you’re being offered belonging that comes with strings. Notice how family narratives (who gives up what, who is seen as ‘good’ or ‘blamed’) might still shape expectations in your relationships. The dream warmly suggests that exploring the house — the interior parts of you that feel abandoned, observed, or guest-like — could reveal resources (the cousin’s companionship, the mermaid’s creativity) you didn’t realize were available. You don’t have to accept every “gift” as destiny; the dream affirms your agency even as it opens a path toward emotional integration and creative transformation.
