Want To Go Home

5/19/2026|By Soulesk

Was at this concrete side area which dipped down into a lake. My ex boyfriend was there standing next to me observing the lake, I guess we lived together and it reminded me of a past dream I had of him about a cabin with a lake attached to it. We went inside the cabin we lived at together, he was taking care of some things around the house, fixing some things up. There was a knock on the door, a man came in to talk to him, was a man that he worked with. He told me he had to go to work so he left with the man. I could see everything he was doing from an outside perspective even though I was still at home. My ex followed this man all the way to their cars, they both got in one car and drove to a shop. They went inside this shop and were discussing about some of the tools they were using and how they needed more supplies. The man takes my ex over to another shop where theres a bunch of men gathered. They're all talking about work and how everything is going. My ex mentions the need for tools and they give him boxes full of items. He takes them and fills up the car, heading back home. While im home alone and hes on his way I hear a knock on the door and its a police officer. They tell me I need to go with them. I say, "Why? Im waiting for my husband." I was calling him my husband in the dream. "I have to wait for my husband." I said. They grabbed me and handcuffed me, put me in their car, when he got home they did the same to him. I looked at him and said, "I dont know what they're doing" and he stayed quiet. They said they needed us to go to an institution and that we were both clinically insane. So we went into this institution and they  sit us one by one on this chair surrounded by others and ask us a bunch of personal questions. They then line us up on these long benches with many other people our age in the same position, some dressed in costume, some dressed in costumes wandering around and some dressed in costumes wandering around acting playing a part. My ex/husband in the dream was walking around as well, people were handing him things which looked like valentine items. It started off with a flower and then a teddy bear here and there more flowers and a heart shaped box of candies. He just began to collect these things from people walking around. Everytime hed get a new item hed look at me in my direction, it got to a point where he had a cart full of all these valentines day goodies. The cart was large, clear and plastic with seperating cubbies almost looked like glass. Someone ends up getting up, a guy, and taking one of the roses from his cart, giving it to a girl that he really liked. My husband in the dream looks at him and is shocked, someone then says, "well thats what thats for... thats actually for everyone." Then swarms of guys start picking at the cart, picking up items that they could and giving them out to girls that they liked. One girl ended up getting the heart shaped box filled with candies, shes happy about it but then after looking around at everybody elses gifts she begins to feel sad because shes the only one with a heartshaped box of candies. Someone mentions to her, "wow, thats cool that you got the heartshaped box, nobody else has that. Your different, your special." She ends up yelling and saying, "No im not!" and tosses the box over and it lands on my lap. I have roses around me and other valentines day gifts surrounding me. I look down at the heart and the candies falling out. I decide to sift through them seperating the vegan candies and discarding the others. I keep the candies I want tossing the box aside. My ex sees this and he just shrugs his shoulders. Theres a girl that comes in and sits on the chair we have all been interigated on. One of the workers stands next to her and he sticks a marker that has the cap off and to the end of the marker and sticks the writing side of the marker in her mouth. She sucks on it sucking out a lot of the ink. He turns the pen around to the back of the pen telling her to blow in it. She blows into the pen and all this smoke comes out from the tip of the pen and also out from the cap surrounding her. She starts to laugh and says, "wow, I knew something like this would happen." He tells her, "don't talk, just blow" so she continues to blow and theres this little marker piece thats in the middle of the marker and it shoots up as she blows. He tells her to keep that piece up as she continues to blow. Everybody around starts laughing, I get the feeling that they're laughing at her and that they dont like her but I dont yet know why. Everybody knows that thats not protocall for the interigation part and is laughing at the fact that she has no idea what shes doing. I sort of want to feel bad for her but realize I dont know her and not sure why they would treat her this way and decide just to observe. Im thinking maybe theres a reason they dont like her. I tell myself maybe ill get to know her and decide for myself, maybe she didnt deserve that and if not maybe ill talk to her and everyone else about it. I begin to observe her and immedietly when shes done with interigation she begins talking to my ex/husband in the dream. She tries flirting with him but because he sees me there he starts backing away. She then moves on to the next guy, I figure I can see why people dont like her and I figure thats why. She starts throwing herself on the next guy, getting too close. The people who interigated her grab her and walk her away telling her she needs to go into a seprate area. My husband comes to sit next to me and asks if I like my gifts, I tell him "yes,.. but I just dont know why were here." I tell him "I dont know anything, I feel so confused" I tell him Its been a long time since ive seen him and it all feels so strange. I tell him that I just want to go home. He tells me, "you will" then he promises that Ill go home.

Your dream reads like a vivid stage on which concerns about belonging, identity, and being judged are being replayed with symbols drawn from domestic life and public authority. The cabin by the lake, and the concrete edge where the water meets land, places you at the threshold between the conscious world and the deeper, quieter feelings below the surface. Lakes in dreams often represent the unconscious or emotional life; the cabin suggests a once-safe domestic interior. Seeing your ex in that space, working with tools and leaving to get supplies, suggests a narrative about fixing or maintaining a shared life — or about the attempt to repair parts of yourself that were tended to in that relationship. The concrete edge implies a certain rigidity or constructed boundary between you and those submerged feelings, as if you’re standing where safety ends and vulnerability begins. The arrival of police, handcuffs, and the label of being "clinically insane" introduces themes of external authority, shame, and loss of autonomy. From a Jungian angle this can represent the pressure of social norms or the inner critic — a judgemental authority that strips you of agency and calls your experience pathological. Freud would point to the anxiety of being exposed or punished for forbidden thoughts or desires; more contemporary dream theory would emphasize how dreams dramatize waking fears of being misunderstood or controlled. The way you insist you are “waiting for my husband” in the dream suggests a yearning for constancy and protection, and the dream’s cruelty — being taken away despite that claim — dramatizes how vulnerable you feel when the world interprets your longing or loyalty as instability. The institutional setting with costumes, interrogations, and the commodified parade of valentines highlights social performance and the distribution of affection. The costumes and staged behaviors read like roles people are expected to play; some people “perform” and are rewarded or ridiculed for it. Your ex collecting valentines but remaining emotionally distant, and the scene of gifts being distributed and then resented, speaks to complicated exchanges of attention in relationships — affection as something to be gathered, traded, or made into status. When the special heart-shaped box ends up on your lap and you sort the candies — keeping what aligns with your values and discarding the rest — it’s a clear image of discernment: you are selectively choosing what kinds of affection or parts of the past you’ll keep. The vegan candy detail is beautifully specific: it suggests ethical or personal standards shaping what you accept emotionally. The marker/ink episode, in which a woman is made to perform an absurd, humiliating ritual while others laugh, captures the sting of public ridicule and the arbitrariness of institutional protocols. It reads as an enactment of how people can be forced into roles that silence them, and how a group’s laughter can enforce exclusion. Your reaction — wanting to feel sympathy but remaining cautious and observational — shows empathy tempered by self-protection. That you consider speaking up later or getting to know her indicates an impulse toward connection and nuanced judgment rather than quick condemnation. Taken together, the dream invites you to reflect on where you feel constrained by external expectations, how you sort and preserve parts of your emotional life, and what “home” actually represents for you now. Is it a physical relationship, a private inner safety, or the right to be treated without being pathologized? The promise from your ex that you will go home may be comforting but ambiguous — it could be a hopeful reassurance, or a reminder of dependence on someone whose support was inconsistent. A gentle next step in waking life might be to notice situations where you feel labeled or controlled, and to consider what boundaries or values (your figurative vegan candies) you want to protect as you reclaim a sense of home — whether that’s within a relationship, within yourself, or in a community that recognizes you without judgment.
