Surreal dream scene, cinematic and atmospheric, digital art: A majestic black owl named Ra with midnight onyx feathers accented by glowing golden veins and piercing golden eyes, perched confidently in a sunlit rustic barn surrounded by a flock of vibrant chickens.

The black owl with golden eyes

I had a dream that I left my dog in a large cage outside to attend to some moving stuff. A friend found her chewing o na charm bracelet and feared that may have eaten her razors too. I told that friend to go fuck herself bc obviously I checked to make sure her mouth wasn’t bleeding. Later, I looked down her throat to be extra sure and found lots of them. I pulled them out in a panic and apologized to my friend Kayce— nothing had cut my dog yet but I felt like the worst. I also realized I’d packed her up like a suitcase and moved everything out of her body like it was a storage unit. I loved on her for a while. Both my exes were involved in the dream and I was trying so hard not to get with either one of them. I lived in the city and had to take public transportation. I remembered holding up a bus with all my things and chatting outside for a while. In the dream I got crazy drunk and wanted to — the next day— return to the bar I blacked out at and apologized to the owners who were cool. I told them I didn’t drink often because I didn’t like who I was when I did. I got a barn full of chickens that were all mine. While cleaning out an old barn I found more and herded them back to my place. Immediately the two cocks got into it. The fight didn’t last long before I heard hallow, squelching pecks into a fallen body. The one I had brought over didn’t stand a chance to the one I already owned. I realized then that the winning male was about three feet tall and had a shape more true to an owl. He was midnight black with feathers so dark it was like true onyx. Golden lines like veins or splitting rivers shone under the light of the sun along with the blood splatter. His eyes were golden too. His name was Ra and I realized— now that he tasted blood— that he would be a handful. I wasn’t scared of him but he did come for me often. I ran out to ask my ex for help bc I was scared to tell my dad what I had done and that there was now a dead rooster in the coop that needed to be removed.

Thank you for sharing such a vivid and rich dream. Let’s explore some of the symbolic and emotional themes woven through it. The presence of your dog, especially the scene of concern over what she’d ingested and your intense care afterward, might symbolize a deep sense of responsibility and protectiveness, perhaps toward a vulnerable part of yourself or something you cherish. The act of “packing her up like a suitcase” and “moving everything out of her body” suggests themes of change or releasing—possibly letting go of old habits, emotions, or aspects of identity that once felt like home or security, but now need to be moved on from. Your interactions with the friend and exes reflect inner tensions or boundaries you’re attempting to maintain. The struggle not to reconnect with your exes could symbolize an effort to move forward from past relationships or patterns, while the public transportation and holding up the bus with your possessions evoke feelings about transition, carrying emotional baggage, or navigating life’s journey amid external pressures. The barn with chickens and particularly the conflict between the two roosters offers a powerful image of competing energies or forces within you. The large black rooster shaped like an owl—with its dark, onyx feathers and golden veins—appears as a striking symbol. Owls often represent wisdom, intuition, and mystery, while the black color can relate to the unknown or transformation. The golden veins and eyes shining in sunlight suggest something precious or enlightening beneath a dark exterior. His name, Ra, connects to an ancient sun deity, possibly hinting at illumination emerging from shadowy or challenging parts of yourself. The blood splatter and the resulting fear reveal an inner confrontation with intense emotion or consequences of assertiveness and power. Seeking help from your ex due to fear of telling your father about the dead rooster could symbolize a need for support when facing difficult truths or acknowledging parts of yourself that feel uncomfortable or shameful. Overall, this dream seems to explore themes of care and vulnerability, the tension between past and present selves, navigations through transformation, and encounters with powerful, perhaps shadowy, energies that demand attention and integration. Feel free to reflect on which images resonate most with your current life experience—dreams like this often invite gentle curiosity about the balance between control, release, vulnerability, and inner strength.
