Mourning House

I was in a massive old house. It was dimly lit. The purpose of this house was to provide a place for people to mourn loved ones. I worked there and was preparing for a family that lost a child. The mother and father came and I tried to stay out of their way. We had met before at a hospital. They were angry. There was like a bicycle or something I burned in an old fire place but I never saw flames. They had an adolescent son who brought his friends. They were excited to see the upstairs. I had musical equipment up there and they wanted to jam. I was extremely stern with them and told them if they were too loud I would kick them all out. Another dream I had cool office/studio where I was making magick music. I decided to bring in the gamelan instruments from my outside studio that I never use anymore and was very excited to start again.

Your dream presents a rich tapestry of symbolic themes related to grief, boundaries, creativity, and transformation. The massive old house as a “mourning house” serves as a powerful symbol of a container or sacred space for processing loss and difficult emotions. Its dim lighting reflects the subdued, reflective atmosphere often associated with sorrow and contemplation. Your role there, preparing for a family experiencing profound grief, suggests a connection to caretaking, emotional support, or honoring transitions—perhaps indicating a sensitivity to others’ pain or your own sense of responsibility around delicate emotions. The family’s anger and the burned bicycle in the fireplace—never fully aflame—could symbolize unresolved grief or suppressed feelings. Fire often represents transformation, but the absence of visible flames might hint at a change that is latent or internal rather than overt. The bicycle, a vehicle often associated with childhood, freedom, or progress, being burned might evoke themes of loss related to innocence or halted forward movement. Upstairs, the adolescent son and his friends’ excitement around music introduces a contrasting energy: youthful exuberance, creativity, and the impulse for expression amid a somber setting. Your sternness about noise suggests a need to maintain boundaries and respect the space’s solemn purpose, or perhaps reflects an internal negotiation between restraint and release. In the second dream, the “cool office/studio” where you create “magick music,” especially involving gamelan instruments, brings a revitalizing, inspiring tone. The gamelan—rich in complex, layered sounds—symbolizes cultural depth, harmony, and ritual. Your excitement to reengage with these instruments can be seen as a renewal of creative energy and personal expression, possibly charting a path from the heaviness of mourning toward transformation and joy through art. Overall, your dreams appear to weave a narrative of navigating sorrow while honoring boundaries, alongside a renewal of creative spirit that holds the potential for healing and transformation. They might be inviting you to reflect on how you balance respect for difficult emotions with the nurturing of your own vibrant, expressive self.
