The new boy in my life
I had a dream that I started seeing my best friend’s ex boyfriend from eleven years ago. I felt terrible about it and when I asked her permission I could see in her eyes that she wanted to be okay with it but that it was a little weird for her. In the dream I was watching Elmo, telling everyone who caught me that I never watched it as a kid but it was my way of dealing with depression, I thoroughly enjoyed kids shows and cartoons when I was down. He didn’t judge me for it. In the dream I remember being very excited to make out with him.. all the time. The rest is sort of fuzzy. There was a bit in the dream where I watched a black spider with spindle legs crawl nearer to my house. I wanted to let her in but grew scared and stepped on it instead, killing her effectively.

Your dream seems to unfold around themes of connection, boundaries, acceptance, and personal coping mechanisms. Meeting your best friend’s ex-boyfriend from many years ago might symbolize your mind exploring past relationships or friendships and how they influence your present emotional landscape. Asking your friend’s permission and noticing her mixed feelings could reflect your sensitivity to the dynamics of existing relationships and your desire for harmony, even in situations that feel complicated or uncertain. Watching Elmo and openly sharing your enjoyment of children’s shows as a way to cope with depression suggests a longing for comfort, innocence, or simpler times during moments of sadness or difficulty. The fact that this is something you felt safe sharing without judgment points to a wish for acceptance of vulnerable parts of yourself. Your excitement about intimacy in the dream might be a symbol of longing for closeness, passion, or new beginnings, though the fuzziness that follows could indicate some uncertainty or hesitation about moving forward. The black spider approaching your house introduces a powerful symbol related to fear, boundaries, and protection. Spiders often represent creativity, patience, or sometimes an underlying anxiety. In this case, stepping on the spider to prevent it from entering may express a protective instinct, a boundary-setting against something perceived as threatening or unwanted. It also hints at an internal conflict between desire to welcome something new and the fear of potential harm or change. Overall, the dream weaves together emotional threads of navigating complex relationships, honoring your feelings and coping strategies, and managing the balance between openness and self-protection. It may invite reflection on how you negotiate boundaries—both for yourself and in relation to others—while seeking comfort and connection.
